About us

Hello and welcome to the Sinhala E Library (E Poth Gula) of Buddhaghosa Project.

Buddhaghosa Project is an attempt of bringing some of the most important and significant literary works of Sinhala literature onto the platform of the world wide web.

This project is named after Buddhaghosa, the 5th century Indian scholar who took up the gigantic task of translating Buddhist texts and commentaries from Sinhala to Pāli.

Key objectives of the project are

  • Making online editions of Sinahala texts that are already on public domain. We will publish non-public domain texts if the authors grant us permission to reproduce their work under a creative commons, non-commercial license.
  • Translating these Sinahala texts into other languages ( English, Tamil, French….)

Current Projects

  • Selalihini Sandeshaya (සැළලිහිණි සන්දේශය)
  • Yasodarawatha (යසෝදරාවත)
  • Wadan Kavi Potha (වදන් කවි පොත)
  • Ummagga Jathakaya (උම්මග්ග ජාතකය)

This website uses Unicode extensively. You will need to make sure that your browser is set up to view Sinhala language content properly. If you don’t do this, you will see lots of boxes or question marks on these pages. This is not a problem with the site, it is a problem with your browser. For step by step instructions on how to set up your browser to view these pages properly, please see the help page.
